Program


Day 1. Welcome at your arrival at the Ulaanbaatar airport. Transfer to your hotel (Standard category). City tour. Visit of Gandantegchilen monastery and introduction to Buddhism in the Buddhist center of Mongolia. Lunch in a restaurant of the city. Visit of the Natural history museum. Briefing on the trip. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2. 9h00 - departure from Ulaanbaatar to Amarbayasgalant Monastery. This monastery is the most relevant of Mongolia and was built during the 17th century in memory of the first lama, Bogd Zanabazar who headed the Mongolian Religion. Located in the North of the Selenge Province, this monastery lay in an exceptional natural setting. Overnight under the tent. 360 Km - 6 heures

Day 3. Visit of the Monastery then departure towards the Khuvsgul Lake. On the way, we will stop on the Mountains surrounding Bulgan City.  Overnight under the tent. 240 Km - 6 hours

Day 4. Today we will drive throughout the wooded region of the North. Bivouac on the banks of the Selenge river near the Ikh Uul village. 180 km - 6 hours

Day 5. After a 6 hours drive we will arrive to the Khuvsgul Lake, one of the natural wonders of Mongolia: a 2760 square meters alpine Lake with so pure that you can drink it, surrounded by a dozen of Mountains towering above 2,000 meters and covered by pine forests and luxuriant meadow where yacks and horses are grazing peacefully. Dinner and night in gers camp of the bank of the Lake. 238 Km

Day 6. Hikking day throughout the surrounding Mountains. Stunning sight on the Lake. Dinner and night under the tent

Day 7.  Visit of a Tsaatan family. It remains only few hundreds Tsaatans in Mongolia. These people still leave from reindeer's breeding and practice shamanism. Dinner and night in gers camp.

Day 8. Today we will drive toward Great White Lake, Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur. We will stop on the way near the village of Shine Ider. Night under the tent. 210 Km - 5 hours

Day 9.  Drive to the Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake which is located at an altitude of 2060 meters. This lake is called the "great white lake". This lake as well as the volcanic areas which surround it is the highlight spot of the Arkhangai province. Still a wild area, this place is ideal to camp and, if you fancy it, to fish. 200 Km - 5 hours

Day 10. Hiking to the Horgo Volcano (15 Km). This extinct volcano at the est of the Lake is covered by Basalt. Night under the tent.

Day 11. Drive to Telmen salt Lake in Zavkhan Province. On the way we will pass by Solongotiin Hill and Tosontsengel (lunch in local restaurant) where you feel like a cowboy as a Wild West atmosphere swept through the Town. Dinner and night under the tent on the bank of the Lake. 240 Km - 6 hours.

Day 12. Drive to Otgontenger Mountain - one of the highest of the country (4,201 meter) with everlasting snow on its top. We will have a nice sight seeing of the Mountains from Dayan Uul. On the way we will pass by Zagastain Hill and Uliastai town. Dinner and night under the tent on the bank of Khokh Lake. 200 Km - 5 hours. 

Day 13. This day we will visit the Bor Khyariin sand dunes. On the way we will stop at Erdenekhairkhan town to have lunch in a local restaurant. Dinner and night under the tent on the bank of Bayan Lake. 250 Km - 6 hours

Day 14. Today we enter in Mongolia Far West. We start visiting the Uvs province. We pass by the airag Lake before reaching Khyargas, a salt Lake amid desert and scrub grass. Dinner and night in gers camp. 160 Km - 4h30.

Day 15. Drive to the blue Lake, 50 Km south of the Province capitale - Ulaangom. We will set ip our camp there. Diner and night under the tent. 200 km - 5 hours.

Day 16. Today we hike around blue lake, one of Mongolia's most beautiful sites is a great place for strolling around, enjoying the magnificent sites of crystal blue lake surrounded by amazing flowers and snowed peaks.You will see one of the most beautifull lakes. 

Day 17. Drive a full day towards to west,see the Achit Nuur.On the way,we will drive through the 'Red Mountain Pass' to 'Uureg' Lake, where you will have a picnic lunch. The lake is home to many kinds of waterfowl which can be viewed from the shore line. Achit Nuur is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Mongolia.There are stunning sunsets and sunrises and good fishing for grayling, lenok, Altai osman and others.You can enjoy seeing spectacular and beautifull landscapes.

Day 18 and 19. During this 2 days we will head toward the south west and the Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. First day we drive about 150kms and pitch a camp just near Lake Sogoog. Next day, after driving about 140 kms, we reach our road end. This is home place of Tuvan people who don't have any religion.

Day 20. With the support of camels, we will trek for 16km to the base camp area at the edge of the 20km long Potanina glacier, that runs down from the highest mountains in Mongolia. We will pitch our camp right here. Tavanbogd means "The Holy Five" referring to the peaks of Huiten (4374m and the highest), Naran, Ulgii, Burget and Nairamdal. It is a stunning setting with the awe inspiring massif of high snow capped peaks.

Day 21. We will remain in the same camp and make a day hike up the non-technical heights of Malchin Uul, where we are likely to trek up through snow. There is also a smaller hill nearby allowing for excellent and stunning views of the mountains, mainly into Russian Altai, but in the distance also China.

Day 22 and 23. Today we trek back alongthe the 20km long Potanina glacier, that runs down from the highest mountains in Mongolia.We have a chance to visit some local nomadic families. Next day we cross Tsaagan River (White River) and trek to Shiveet Hairhan Mountain, where the Tuva people live. Here we will now be able to view the biggest petrolgyphs from the period of the Huns (approx 200 B.C.). The Huns were the reason for the Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huangdi to build the Great Wall of China.

Day 24. Drive through Kharganat River, Osguuriin Hill and Buyant vilaage before reaching the crystal - like Lake of Tolbot. Dinner and night under the tent on the berge of the Lake. 190 Km - 5 hours

Day 25. Drive to the black Lake (Khar Us), the second largest freshwater Lake in Mongolia. Spot the partridges, wild ducks, wood grouse, geese and seagulls. Drive back to Khovd. Night in hotel. 230 Km - 6 hours

Day 26. Transfer to the Khovd or Olgii airport. Flight to Ulaanbaatar. Free diner and night at the hôtel.  

Day 27. Whole day in Ulaanbaatar. Visit of the Bogd Khan summer palace. Lunch in local restaurant. Visit of cashmere factory. Shopping in the black market. Free dinner and night in hotel.

Day 28. Breakfast. Transfer to the airport. Departure.
