The Mongolian Altai mountains of western Mongolian shows the memories of a glorious pasts. From the petroglyph dating back to the Neolothic period to Middles ages Turkish sculpture to the Kazakhs people inhabiting now tadays the area, this trip will make you travel through diiferent periods and allow you to admire the stunning natural beauties of one of the most remoted Mongolian province: high sow-capped mountains, glaciers, crystal-clear lake and lush valleys.

Program

Day 1. Accueil à votre arrivée à l'aéroport d'Ulaanbaatar. Transfert à votre hôtel (1 étoile). Tour de ville. Visite du palais d'hiver de Bogd Khaan. Déjeuné dans un restaurant de la ville. Visite du musée d'histoire Naturelle. Briefing sur le circuit. Nuit à l'hôtel. Diner libre.

Day 2. Transfer to the airport and flight to Mongolian farwest (4 heures). Welcome in Khovd by our local team. Lunch then drive to Gurvan Tsenkher Cave by Russian 4wd jeep or 4wd minivan. We set up our first camp just near this cave, which is 15000 years old. Visit of the cave. Diner in bivouac and night under the tent.

Day 3. Drive to Hongor Olon by Russian 4wd jeep or 4wd miniva in Tsambagarav National Park. We pitch our camp just on the north-west side of Tsamba-Garav Uul (one of the highest snowcapped mountains in Mongolia 4208m). Diner in bivouac and night under the tent.

Day 4. After driving about 110km we will arrive to Ulgii, the capitale province of Bayan Ulgii aimag. Lunch and visit the most interesting local museum of Ölgii, with comprehensive information of flora and fauna of Bayan-Ulgii as well as it colourful traditional costumes. Driving few hours,we will reach the summer spending place of Kazakh Nomadic people. There you will admire rock printings. In the evening, visit the local Kazakh herder families and feel their grade hospitalities. Diner in bivouac and night under the tent.

Day 5. Driving towards the Tavan Bogd National Park, on the way you have chance to see remote mountain country when our jeeps will cross big pass.We will pitch camp just near ancient Turkic stones with face and graves in the Snake Valley. Diner in bivouac and night under the tent.

Day 6. Today after driving about 90km, we reach the road end. This place is home of Tuvan people, who don't have any religion. On the way we will stop near Mountain Shiveet Hairhan (Holy Mountian). Tuvan people respect this mountian like their god, so no hunting is allowed in the area. There are about 400 ibexs living there. On the southeast side of this mountain, you will see the biggest rock printing(petro-glyphs) from the period of the Huns (approx 200 B.C.). The Huns were the reason why the Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huangdi built the Great Wall of China. Diner in bivouac and night under the tent.

Day 7 and 8. With the support of camels, we will trek for 16km to the base camp area at the edge of the 20km long Potanina glacier, that runs down from the highest mountains in Mongolia. We will pitch our camp right here. Tavanbogd means "The Holy Five" referring to the peaks of Huiten (4374m and the highest), Tavan Bogd,Malchin, Burget and Nairamdal. It is a stunning setting with the awe inspiring massif of high snow capped peaks. Next day trek back on the other side of the Tsaagan River (White River) to Shiveet Hairhan Mountain, where the Tuva people live. Packing camels will go with us for our bags. You will have the opportunity to take pictures of Snow Altai Mountian Peaks and Camels. Diner in bivouac and night under the tent.

Day 9. Driving about 100km,we reach the Khar Yamaat Valley. There are you will see the Turkic Archeological sites ,which are belonged to 6-8 centuries of B.C. Diner in bivouac and night under the tent.

Day 10. We will drive from Khar Yamaat to Nogoon Nuur village. On he way we will visit some Turkish stones with face and petro-glyphs. Diner in bivouac and night under the tent.

Day 11. On the way to Lake Shaazgait,you will have a lunch near lake Achit Nuur. One of the largest freshwater lakes in Mongolia.There are stunning sunsets and sunrises and good fishing for grayling, lenok, Altai osman and others. Driving from Achit Nuur to the east, you can enjoy seeing spectacular and beautifull landscapes. In the evening,we will come to lake Shaazgait and pitch a camp there. Diner in bivouac and night under the tent.

Day 12. Early departure to cover 170 Km and reach the Kharkhiraa valley. Hiking in the surrounding Mountains. Dinner and night in gers camp.

Day 13. Departure to Ulaangom (27 Km). Regarding your flight schedule we will do a city tour and visit the privince museum. Transfer to the airport and flight back to Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to your hotel. Free diner.

Day 14. Breakfast. Visit of Gandantegchilen monastery and introduction to Buddhism in the Buddhist center of Mongolia. Lunch in local restaurant. Shopping in the afternoon. visit of the black market and cashmere factory. Farewell diner in on of the best restaurant of the capitale. Night at the hotel.

Day 15. Breakfast. Transfer to the airport. Departure.
